What Do You Think? D.I.Y. Labor Starters

As a woman approaches her due date, and certainly once she’s passed it, she is usually quite open to the idea of going into labor. After all, the third trimester is what makes a woman want to give birth, right?
I know with Samuel I was more than ready to have him, and be done with all the get-my-hopes-up braxton hicks contractions! I wanted to see this child we had waited so many years for!!
My husband loved the idea that sex was going to supposedly get labor started. Win, win situation, right? So, yeah, we did that. haha
I also started exercising normally again once I got to 37 weeks (for 4 weeks prior to that, I had been told to stop because of all the contractions it caused) but walking, even power-walking, didn’t do the trick. Hmm, maybe it did, though. I dilated 1cm a week from 36-39 weeks and was 4cm at my 39w1d appointment, which also happened to be the night he was born. So, who knows? Maybe the exercising (and sex) did help get me ready for labor.
I wasn’t opposed to eating spicy food for the last two weeks, but I’m thinking that didn’t help really. Tasted good, but other that, I am unconvinced.
Castor oil would have been an option, I suppose, if I had been overdue, but I admit the idea of it makes me a bit nervous.
What Do You Think?
Have you ever tried to kick-start your labor? Or will you?
If so, what’d you try? Did it work?
